Nokia-Disconnecting People
IT
outsourcing is one of the pillars of Indian economy.Though it contributes only
10% to Indian economy.IT growth should be thanked to India's telecommunication network. We should be
happy to know that India is the 3rd
largest in the world on the basis of its customer base and it has one of the
lowest tariffs in the world enabled by the hyper-competition in its market. The handset industry in India has been an attractive destination for
the global mobile phone manufacturers from the very start. Mobile phones in
India serve the growing communication
needs.Nokia was one of the latest entrant and it created trust among people or
so to say ”Connected people”.But now the connection is becoming weak or so to say it is “Disconnecting people”.
Nokia’s downfall is a classic case of market leaders downfall.Nokia entered very early into the
Indian market.It has delivered some
really big blockbuster models like recharge phone Nokia 1100,Nokia xpressmusic
and Nokia C5-03.Till now in Indian market we should be amazed that out of 15
top handsets there were 7 models from Nokia. After enjoying honeymoon in Indians mind and heart some challengers
captured the teriitory that Nokia never thought.
At low end segment Nokia facing tough challenges from the home-grown
players such as Micromax, Karbonn and Spice.Specially Micromax which concentrated on the rural market
first and then on urban areas and also
price conscious QWERTY keypad and affordable double SIM.Samsung in high end
segment which I thnk is market challenger delivering affordable tablets on all
platforms.Secondly,Nokia’s decline reason is late entrant into Smartphone
market.Nokia was not able to understand the changing taste of consumer which was
also a big factor.Thirdly,Nokia partnering with Windows for their smartphone
saw a negative impact on share price So basically Nokia has to focus on consumer
needs merge with new technology pay attention to design and deliver value to
customer and try to again connecting with people.
