Microsoft ‘s Spiral vs Google’s Iterative
Each organization is considered
to be unique.Uniqueness of any organization is in respect to the DNA of the
particular company.Uniqueness of particular organization can be in terms of
its innovation,way of working and
various other parameters.Regardless to say that unless a organization does not
innovate it will not grow in marketplace. Now consider why Microsoft and Google
did not loose in the competition in marketplace.Google did not loose like
Netscape. Companies have their own style of working which contributes to the
success and make them blockbusters. Now when we consider Microsoft and Google both
have different ways of doing
it.Microsoft follows Spiral model and Google follows Iterative model in order
to launch new products.
When we compare Google’s android
which primarily followed Iterative or incremental model in which
product(Android ) was build.Google identified set of requirements and they
prioritized requirements and found out the most important and build on
it.That’s why we see Android versions are launched more early than any
other.Android which primarily came 2 years before and journey from jelly bean
to ice cream sandwich was faster than Microsoft office. Now when we look into
how MS Office is developed which follows spiral developed.Microsoft operates in
more closer environment and spiral life cycle development involves more risk
identification and mitigation. That’s why we have seen very less versions/build
of MS Office then that of Android Windows 98,Windows xp,MS 2003,MS-2007 and
MS-2010).So both are good ? both are bad?.Well that is something debatable but
companies following Spiral model is very rare then Incremental.Since Microsoft
works in this kind of environment it is not easy for them to adapt to
change, rapidly produce radically different that would be able to cater the
latest demands in public place. Both Microsoft and Google are blockbusters brands and I believe they way in which operate has
acted as enabler in making them global giants.
