Indian Controversial league

Well 5 years before Indian cricket got a make over.Normal domestic cricket was exposed to IPL.IPL is a combination of glamour, sport and huge money. Players were traded and bargained and each player had a price cap from which franchisees would be traded.When IPL  started in 2008 there was immense craze because it had combination of world class players,legends , business tycoons,film stars and cricket.

All thanks to Lalit modi the creator of this format. In first 3 editions 8 teams participated in the competition.Since its starting and till  now IPL journey has been roller coaster of ride.IPL was started to give first hand experience to domestic players in international platform.But since its inception  IPL has suffered lots of controversies and problems

1.First edition went smoothly.There was lot of craze among people to watch matches.TV ratings were on a high.Fans wanted a piece of their cricketers.Then happened the sreesanth-harbhajan slap row.Actually harbhajan slapped sreesanth after a match(Punjab vs Mumbai)  during handshakes.Harbhajan apologized for his rude behaviour and matter was resolved

2.The 2009 season coincided with the general election  in India. Owing to concerns regarding players' security, the venue was shifted to South Africa. The format of the tournament remained same as the inaugural one. But Indian board had to conduct the tournament in south Africa. Immediately after the IPL there was T20 world cup in England in  which Indian team performed very poorly.Indian team did not qualify even for semi finals. Media and former cricketers blamed IPL because of poor performance.


3. The third season opened in mid march where deccan chargers were not able to play their matches in their home ground in Hyderabad due to on going political crisis in Telengana region. The new bases for the champions this season were Nagpur,Navi Mumbai and Cuttack .Incidentally IPL touched a new high by live streaming cricket matches in You tube and final four matches were screened in 3D in movie theatres

4.The fourth season  saw new teams Kochi and Pune coming into scene. However, the bid around the Kochi franchisee turned controversial resulting in the resignation of minister,Shashi Tharoor from the Central Government and investigations by various departments of the Government of India into the financial dealings of IPL and the other existing franchisees. Later, Lalit modi as also removed from IPL chairmanship by BCCI.

5.The fifth season is going on now but full of controversies .Starting from termination of  Kochi franchisee,then came press release from Sahara announcing the termination from its franchisee and Indian team,then Preity zinta walking into field during strategic time out of a match spot fixing of IPL players and now recently the ugly spat of SRK with security officials in the match
