Operations management is a field which is related with the strategy of organisation which helps to optimize existing resources and get maximum output in cost effective and timely manner.Mcdonalds is one of those food chain corporations which has implemented operations management principles and got maximum revenue .



Product:Mcdonald deals with hamburgers .So when it wanted came into India it had to study the indian market.Indian consumers have different taste and prefernces.So in order to understand the customer preference it had done market research in Mumbai where it found out that from a normal common man to a software engineer.Everybody is fond of eating Vada-pav .So it modified its product according to tastes and preference of  Indian consumers and served burgers with Indian flavours.

Capacity planning:Demand is not easy to predict .There is always a element of error attached into it.When Mcdonald initially came to India it had opened only in New delhi and Mumbai.For these 2 cities capacity planning is important.In weekends more people walking into store then normal days.So the manager has to plan accordingly and make to sure that there is enough stock and ingredients that would satisfy the demands of customers. For instance if the buns required for making hamburgers falls short then the restaurant may not be able to sell any hamburgers even if it has enough quantities of other ingredients .

Location planning :After initial success in New Delhi and India.Mcd  had planned for expansion .It went for opening multiple stores in multiple cities. McDonalds Restaurants also have to plan their location in such a way so that maximum customers visit their restaurants. Therefore McDonalds prefer locations such that it can have large customer base, transport access and availability of parking space. Moreover it also prefers location that are suitable for raw material delivery, that is availability of ample space for deliveries of raw material.So we can see that most of Mcdonalds outlets are present in Malls,crowded areas ,Business parks etc.


Layout design:Ambience  is one of key factors which is essential for success of a restaurant.Mcdoanlds has eliminated the traditional restaurants where server comes into customer asks the order and delivers that.Instead customer directly goes into billing counter and orders and waits for the order to be delivered to him.Layout is also designed in safety and health issues.Layout is also designed such a way that supervision is minimized.
  
Supply chain management:For Mcdonalds supply chain plays a key role .Mcdoanlds  deals with supplies like buns,ketchup sachets,meat ,fresh vegetables ,disposable cups and other raw materials .McDonald has a close relationship with their suppliers and it is evident that they are able to deliver consistent taste,quality and increase reliability among customers.Another example of  exceptional supply chain is 1 minute philosophy where mcdoanlds promises to deliver the order within a span of 1 minute.This shows constant innovation and process improvement approach that Mcdonalds follows in order to cater maximum customers at a given period of time.


Branding and promotion:Happy hour meal,Afternoon meal,Television advertisements and Ronald Mcdonalds are some of the ways that Mcdonalds promotes itself and also branding is done
