CDMA vs GSM

CDMA -Code Divison Multple Access
GSM-Global System for Mobile Communication

Advantages of CDMA:-

1.Increased cellular communications security.
2.Simultaneous conversations.
3.Increased efficiency, meaning that the carrier can serve more subscribers.
4.Low power requirements and little cell-to-cell coordination needed by operators.
5.Extended reach - beneficial to rural users situated far from cells.

Disadvantages of CDMA:-

1.Due to its proprietary nature, all of CDMA's flaws are not known to the engineering community.
2.CDMA is relatively new, and the network is not as mature as GSM.
3.CDMA cannot offer international roaming, a large GSM advantage.

GSM
Advantages of GSM:-
1.GSM is already used worldwide with over 450 million subscribers.
2.International roaming permits subscribers to use one phone throughout Western Europe.
3. CDMA will work in Asia, but not France, Germany, the U.K. and other popular European destinations.
4.GSM is mature, having started in the mid-80s.
This maturity means a more stable network with robust features. CDMA is still building its network.
5.GSM's maturity means engineers cut their teeth on the technology, creating an unconscious preference. The availability of Subscriber Identity Modules(SIM), which are SMART CARDS that provide secure data encryption give GSM m-commerce advantages.

Disadvantages of GSM:-

1.Lack of access to burgeoning American market.

  2. The main differences of CDMA and GSM are,CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access)after digitizing data, spreads it out over the entire bandwidth available to it.GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) GSM is a digital mobile telephone system that is widely used around the world In CDMA network, there is one physical channel and a special code for every device in the coverage network. Using this code, the signal of the device is multiplexed, and the same physical channel is used to send the signal. In GSM network, every cell has a corresponding network tower, which serves the mobile phones in that cellular area.International roaming accessible is less in CDMA and more in GSM.Handset network service is specific in CDMA ,but in GSM it is SIM specific, User has option to select handset of his choice ,sometime it will locked with a particular network contract for a particular periods, but we can remove it by getting the unlocking
service from an provider like MobileUnlockSolutions.com

  3. Difference between GSM and CDMA phones are

1.Global System for Mobile communications(GSM) Phone Number Binding With SIM card,Code Division Multiple Access(CDMA) Phone Number Binding With mobile handset.

2.GSM data is stored in SIM card and the CDMA data is stored in Phone’s internal memory.

3.You are free to buy any GSM handset from market. The CDMA Handset is changed through service provider only.

4.Data Transfer Technologies of GSM is EDGE/HSDPA and CDMA is EVDO/3G/4G/LTE

5.Transfer Speed of GSM is A wee bit slower, but catching up fast and CDMA is faster

6.International Roaming of GSM is Very good and we can use the same handset in abroad by getting an another local sim card in abroad. For this we may need to unlock our mobile by getting the unlocking service by a relevant software or by an online service provider like Unlocking4U.com.But in CDMA is not available all over the globe (so if you fly around the world, GSM could be a better choice for you)

  4. CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) is a digital cellular technology that uses spread-spectrum techniques.CDMA consistently provides better capacity for voice and data communications than other commercial mobile technologies, allowing more subscribers to connect at any given time, and it is the common platform on which 3G technologies are built. It doesn't have sim card.
The reason for more GSM usage is that the international Roaming of GSM is Very good and it has sim card,So you can easily swap your sim card when you need.If we got a locked phone means we can unlock it by getting the unlocking service from any one of the online service provider like Unlocking4Free.com
