Kabadi has got its much needed make over with the start of new league. India the home of Kabaddi got its much needed make over and style in form of Pro Kabaddi. Previously kabbadi was played in sand and and open air and for now it is played in closed arena and on mat.Pro kabbadi is in its 5 installment and buzz and hype is amazing among audiences. So what makes this sport and league so special and let me ponder into some of reasons for success of Pro Kabaddi

1.Contact sport:-People always think Kabaddi is a contact sport but to be fair enough .I do not believe it is contact sport. It is a sport where each player should have strength like a wrestler, physique like a boxer and should think like chess player. Notion of kabaddi being a contact sport is held back as kabaddi is  a game of strategies, innovative thinking and some much needed skills.There are some skills like dubki(escape),dash ,block etc which when showcased by players increases the levels of entertainment among team members

2.Customized Rules:-Normal kabbadi is always boring and it stretches for long duration.The customized rules of Pro kabbadi which includes  like every 3rd raid becoming Do or Die raid,Super tackle,usage of lobbies after touch etc makes it more interesting.it keeps audience involved and engaging and because of customized rules there is lot of drama ,suspense expected in each raid

3.Playing on mat:-Previously kabaddi was used to be played in open ground and preferably in sandpits.But now in pro kabbadi .the sport is played on a mat which makes it more engaging and has also decreased the chances of players getting injured. Since it can be played on mat so all matches are hosted in indoor stadiums and increases the excitement levels among people to watch it.


4.Marketing:-Star sports has also not left any stone unturned in terms of marketing the league.From season to season the channel is promoting the sport and league has grown strength to strength.IPL style coverage ,usage of animated team logos, calling sports and films personalities for reciting National anthems, Film stars using the platform for promoting movies. From season to season the marketing strategies of leagues are changed. Where Season 1 focused on more on game while rest of seasons it focused on some of the new players, heroes which emerged from season 1 like Anup Kumar,Rahul Chaudhary etc

5.New heroes:-Cricket has always taken a front seat and always been a first choice for sports viewing among Indians. But players like Rahul chaudhari,Anup Kumar,Ajay Thakur,Rakesh kumar made their own mark into the league and were able to capture the hearts of Indian viewers. 7.Team sport :-Kabbadi is real meaning of team sport.It is not like cricket where for batting team leaving batsmen all other team members sit in pavilion ;it involves strategies ,planning and quick decision making.No team is all out in this sport .In each raid and defense almost all the players are involved in the game and contribute for the team.It is an intense action packed sport but player has to have a mind which is ice cool.It is the sport where raid is in single and defend by unit
