Advertising is a form of communication used to
encourage or persuade an audience (viewers, readers or listeners; sometimes a
specific group of people) to continue or take some new action.
We
can build a blockbuster product but it needs to be marketed well in order to be
recognized in market. Advertising gives that edge.The point is effective promotion is
required .Lets take for instance the bottle wars(Coke vs pepsi).When we drink
coca cola & pepsi there is less difference of taste.The taste is almost
same.For decades we have seen that these 2 giants rope big celebrities,innovative
marketing campaigns and brilliant positioning
starategies in order to tap customers.Even after the pesticide problem the was
very small dip of sales.These shows the power of advertising.One more instance
we can recall is the Cadbury rebuilding after the problems of worms in the
factory.So
when we look into how ad agency really works there are essentially 4
departments
Client
servicing:Client
servicing deals with clients, understands the requirements of client.This department
sit with client and give input on how a brand can be poistonned.The role is
basically a communicator between creative team and client.
Strategizing
team:Strategizing
team is next team which actually understands clients business,target audience
and decides on how well the brand can be poistonned.Effective poistonning is
essential for a brand to be successful.Examples of poistonning ; In automobile
industry Toyota is positioned as quality,Volvo for safety,Mercedes Benz for
Design & Luxury,Maruti Suzuki as people car,while Nano as common’s car
Creative
team:Creative team
consists of copyrighter and visualizer.Copyrighter essentially looks at the
legal aspects of an ad.He makes sure that idea is new,novel and cannot be
copied by the competitors.Visualizer effectively visualizes the
advertisement.He look after the creative aspects of ad.He visualizes scene by
scene of ad.Visualizer and strategizing team both work together in order to
make effective ad
Media
& Planning department:Media
& Planning team basically buys television slots where the brand can be
effectively promoted and targeted.Example a woman’s hair oil ad can be targeted
during daily soaps & serial,a automobile ad can be targeted during festive occasions
etc.
